Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry is a field of dentistry that uses medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. Sedation dentistry can be used for a variety of procedures, from simple teeth cleanings to more complex procedures such as root canals. Sedation dentistry is often used for patients who have dental anxiety or who have difficulty getting numb for dental procedures. There are three main types of sedation used in dentistry: oral sedation, IV sedation, and nitrous oxide sedation. Oral sedation is taken in pill form an hour before the procedure is scheduled to begin. IV sedation is given through a small needle in the arm and takes effect more quickly than oral sedation. Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is inhaled through a small mask that is placed over the nose during the procedure. Sedation dentistry can help make your dental experience more comfortable by helping you feel relaxed and less anxious. Schedule a consultation with Dr. George to talk about your sedation options.
